Schedule of Vivapalooza Medical Speakers

This year we are featuring Physician Info Stations throughout Viva, where medical speakers will hold informal information sessions about pertinent health topics.   People are encouraged to stop by and take in a short presentation, and discuss questions they may have with the medical providers.

VIVAPALOOZA 2013!

Emerald Physicians presents our 4th annual Vivapalooza!
New this year…the Viva 5K Run/Walk!

Emerald Physicians is pleased to announce our 4th annual healthy living expo, Vivapalooza, which will be held on Sunday, June 2nd from 10-4 at Barnstable High School.

This free, fun-filled, and informative event focuses on education, empowerment, and advocacy for all. Through a focus of “eating local, celebrating imagination, and living healthy”, Vivapalooza showcases a full spectrum of healthy choices and local community resources available on Cape Cod. Local exhibitors will demonstrate products and services for a healthier lifestyle, physicians will discuss today’s important health topics, and area restaurants will provide healthy fare sampling.  Kids’ activities, health screenings, cooking demos, yoga, tai’ chi, fitness demos, 3D printing technology and more will round out this “humdinger” of a day! Attendees this year will receive the “Viva Passport: Your Ticket to Wellness” to enter into a prize drawing. Information regarding the day’s events will be updated on this website, so please check back periodically!

Additionally, this year Emerald Physicians has joined forces with Cape Cod Charitable Funraisers, Inc. to debut the Viva 5k road race. All ages are invited to participate in this run/walk which will also spotlight the Barnstable Recreation Department’s goal to prevent childhood obesity. 100% of proceeds from the race will benefit eight local charities. Free t-shirt for the first 250 registrations. It promises to be “More Fun than You’ve Ever Run!” The race starts at 10am at Barnstable High School, with walk-up registrations beginning at 9am. Healthful Living Series at Cotuit Library Announced

This Healthful Living Series featuring Kumara Sidhartha, MD of Emerald  Physicians will be held at the Cotuit Library, 871 Main Street in Cotuit.

 

May 13th from 1-2pm

Arthritis:  Eating for Less Pain, More Gain

Composting is Cool!

Fact:  Both our bodies and the garden soil need the good bacteria – our buddies!  Biology meets ecology in this hands-on class where Dr. Sid will draw from medical and permaculture practice to show simple techniques for using your kitchen scraps to make compost.  In as little as one month, compost can turn your soil rich and healthy to grow tasty, nutritious vegetables & fruit (appropriate for all ages).

Viva 5k…More Fun Than You’ve Ever Run!

We are pleased to announce a new element this year to Vivapalooza, our annual healthy living expo! We have partnered with the folks at Cape Cod Charitable Funraisers, Inc. to present the Viva 5k walk/run. It is great for all ages, and great for our community! 100% of the proceeds benefit these eight local charities: Cape & Islands United Way, Cape Cod Young Professionals, Champ Homes, HopeHospice Cape Cod, Kiwanis Clubs of Hyannis and Sandwich, Lyme Awareness of Cape Cod, Silent Spring Institute, and Spaulding Rehabilitation of Cape Cod. Additionally, the Viva 5k is spotlighting Barnstable Recreation’s goal to prevent childhood obesity.

The race will kick off at Barnstable High School at 10am, with walk up registrations beginning at 9am. Sergeant Daniel M. Clark, “The Singing Trooper”, will perform the Star Spangled Banner as a patriotic prelude to the race, which will follow a neighborhood route down to Craigville Beach Road and back to BHS. Koko Fit Club will lead participants through a warm-up and cool-down, and there will be giveaways and healthy snacks. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the open and youth divisions, compliments of Bayside Runner. Plus, the first 250 registrants will receive a FREE t-shirt!
